Full Disclosure…I’m a Dad. But I’m also a blogger. And a pretty successful one at that.
So hear me out.
We all know becoming a new parent and raising your baby is unbelievably awesome.
I started blogging because I wanted to ultimately spend more time with my kids. It has allowed me the kind of freedom that extended beyond my wildest dreams.
Blogging has enhanced my life in too many ways to count, but here are some of the reasons I think every new parent should start a blog.
8 Reasons You Might Want to Consider Starting a Blog
It’s a Blur
Having a baby is amazing. Two things are going to happen.
- You’ll feel a sense of purpose like never before.
- And you’ll be extremely tired all the time.
The lack of sleep and whirl of emotions will do bad things to your memory. Starting a blog can help you document the experiences of raising a child in a very accurate and honest light.
Blogging is the easiest way for the average person to make some extra money.
When you have time, you blog. When you don’t, you don’t. You can take a day off whenever you feel like it.
But unlike other part time money making options like say…driving for Uber, your blog never sleeps. So once established, your blog will be earning money for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Improve the Community
Times are much different than they used to be. Back in the day you probably went to a neighbor, or asked your mother every-time you had a question about your kids. These days the first thing you do is probably ask Google.
There is an important online support group for new parents that is wonderfully helpful. A personal blog will allow you to be a valuable contributor.
Blaze the Trail
Women aren’t going to stop becoming new mothers. So there is always someone who’s going to be just as confused as you were. You’ll learn from your mistakes. A blog let’s you share your advice and experience.
Keep Companies Honest
Battle potential corporate greed and fight back against those producing less than sub-par products. By recommending and spreading the word about great baby product companies (and blowing the whistle on the bad ones) you make the world a better and safer place.
Maybe the last thing you want to do is “More Baby.” Babies come in an overrun our lives.
Starting a blog about one of your passions is a great way to defocus and recharge. Even if it’s only for 20 minutes a day, it will help you relax and make you a better mother.
If you are going to be a stay-at-home mom starting a blog can help you battle the inevitable loneliness and disconnect. Rather than lying back and trolling the mom blogs, get out there and be an active participant.
And if you are expecting to go back to work…
Consider Changing Careers
Blogging is a skill. One that is becoming more valuable to companies every day. And those who know how to create a good blog will be in ridiculously high demand.
Maybe you will discover a hidden talent that will lead to a new (and better) career when it is time to go back to work.
